Urology, Andrology, and Men’s health are closely related, but each focuses on a slightly different part of a man’s body and wellbeing. Understanding the differences helps patients know whom to see, and when.

Urology is the branch of medicine that deals with diseases of the urinary tract in both men and women and the male reproductive organs. It covers organs such as the kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra, prostate, testes, and penis. Urologists are surgical specialists who can both diagnose problems and treat them with medicines, minimally invasive procedures, or surgery.

Andrology is a subspecialty of urology that focuses specifically on the male reproductive system and male sexual health. An andrologist is a urologist with extra training in conditions like male infertility, hormone problems, and sexual dysfunction.

Men’s health is a wider concept that goes beyond just the urinary tract and reproductive organs. It includes sexual health, fertility, hormones, as well as heart health, diabetes, obesity, mental health, and lifestyle. Urologists often act as men’s health specialists because urinary and sexual symptoms can be early warning signs of serious conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease.
